Chief Design Engineer, Ryan Carroll has been crafting a custom one off Street_Style for IF Reach. Ryan and the rest of his Studio Design Team presented founder, George Lin with his custom If Reach on October 29th as he was packing to leave for Tokyo.

George and Ryan will first travel to Tokyo to visit Design Tide Tokyo where they will travel the streets and train with their IF Reach and IF Mode in anticipation for the coming Cycle Mode show the following week.

Ryan’s team was proud to introduce their Street_Style. He explained they wanted to start with a classic frame color combination and then add some fine details to bring out IF’s bold attitude. The Street_Style IF Reach features a hand crafted Leather badge set for the head tube and model name. The center frame wrap not only announces the Reach name but it creates another stylish hand hold when folding the frame. The aero profile rims were custom painted to stop all in their tracks and take note as George is dashing through the street of Tokyo in the coming weeks.

For all those in Tokyo in the coming weeks, if you spot George or Ryan out on the town, stop them and say hello and see for yourself the new IF technology in action.

UPDATE 2008 Novemeber 3rd: IF Technology visits Design Tide Tokyo

After arriving in Tokyo, George Lin and Ryan Carroll set out to put their IF folding bike in action as they traveled to and from different Design show display sites in different cities around Tokyo. As they cycled through Tokyo, George and Ryan felt very comfortable in and out of car and foot traffic. At times when foot traffic was heavy walking from building to building to check out the displays, their IF Reach and IF Mode quickly converted to a friendly wheelable package and blended in with the crowds flow.

At the Design Touch site, the two met up with Japanese bicycle designer Naotaka Yoshimatsu of Tartaruga Entertainment Works. The three then continued traveling to Shibuya, Rupongi, Shimbashi, Ginza and a few other nearby cities to investigate various presentations. Along the way they generated much excitement about their original modes of transportation they were traveling on. Many fellow cyclists and pedestrians inquired about the bikes and each of the three were riding. And each was very glad to give a quick demonstration of their bikes unique folding styles.

Ryan noted: “While at the shows we had chances to talk to other designers and discuss the unique features or perspectives they had focused on but when on the streets we were also lucky to have the same chance of sharing with many local and foreign individuals our excitement we have for our bicycles. It was really a great chance to get immediate feed back on our new development and feel the excitement the inquisitive people had.” There were many groups that also successfully tried to fold and unfold for the first time and appreciated the new approach to urban cycling that IF technology has achieved.

After an exciting weekend visiting Design Tide Tokyo George and Ryan are looking forward to the up coming Cycle Mode show. They look forward to meeting more people while they are in Japan and further demonstrating the IF technology during the days leading up to the show as they are out and about.

Banshee spent countless time working with Pacific Cycles Engineering team to revise and optimize the frame components for optimal manufacture so it would meet Banshee’s quality and structural needs. During the prototype construction phase, Banshee and their distributors where at the factory watching and interacting with Pacific’s fabricating team to create a flawless first prototype.

After full T6 heat treatment and a custom Banshee team paint job that included a proud placement of a Pacific logo on the top tube, the frame was delivered by hand to their racers. Markolf Berchtold, Brazilian Elite DH racer, and Marcelo Gutierrez, Columbian Junior DH racer, receive their complete bikes the first day of the Pan American Championships practice.

On race day there was somewhat of a tense climate between qualifications and final race runs. Markolf had qualified first and then for his race he made a clean run and pulled ahead of all the riders and finished 3 seconds faster. Marcelo also finished with a first place race run time.

The podium was an ecstatic place for emotion and accomplishment. The riders proved much that day in all the efforts everyone put forth to support them getting there. Revenue is expected to grow 8 percent to NT$34 billion this year as a result of its optimistic outlook on the nation's consumer electronics market, Jack Chien, a general manager of Tsann Kuen in charge of the company's home appliance unit, said yesterday at a press briefing.

"Our decision in the fourth quarter of 2006 to shift the company's main focus to products with high added value helped Tsann Kuen to turn from loss to profit last year, after two consecutive years of losses in 2005 and 2006," said Chien, who is also the company's head of operations in Zhangzhou, China.

Tsann Kuen also plans to introduce green energy products in the second quarter of this year, he said, without giving further details.

Tsann Kuen's annual revenue last year increased by 17 percent year-on-year to NT$31.5 billion. The company also expanded its nationwide network to a total of 244 outlets, after adding 70 new stores, Jerry Yen , a general manager in charge of channel business, said yesterday. The retailer opened only 12 new outlets in 2006, he said.

The company plans to increase its consumer electronics market shares in terms of sales this year. Sales of notebook computers are expected to increase 6 percent to 30 percent of domestic market this year.

The company sold 115,000 laptops last year, accounting for 24.1 percent of the total laptops sold domestically by all retailers in the year.

Sales of desktop computers, meanwhile, are likely to pose a smaller increase of 2 percent to account for 47 percent of all desktops sold this year.

Tsann Kuen also is setting a target of bringing the sales of liquid-crystal-display TVs to around 25 percent of the market share this year, up from 22.2 percent last year, Yen said.

Shares of Tsann Kuen rose 2.67 percent to NT$44.5 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange yesterday, underperforming a 3.13-percent rise in the TAIEX.

Apart from its core business in home appliances and consumer electronics, Tsann Kuen's online travel agency unit, Star Travel Corp , is expected to start trading its shares on the Emerging Stock Market on Jan. 28, Yen said.

Star Travel, the nation's second largest online travel ticketing company, reported NT$28 million profit on NT$4.7 billion revenue last year.

Star Travel is expecting a 2 percent growth rate in sales this year, said Yen, who declined to make a forecast on the online travel agency's profit this year.

People who bring an old computer in for recycling at any of Tsann Kuen's 172 chain stores in Taiwan will receive an NT$2,000 (US$66) gift certificate good towards a new Asustek computer armed with an Intel dual-core microprocessor.

"We're doing this to promote computer recycling," said Jerry Yen, general manager of Tsann Kuen. "It's our way to do something for Earth Day," he added.

Asustek is putting up most of the money for the gift certificates and other aspects of the recycling program, while Intel is working on coordination and promotion. Tsann Kuen is responsible for collecting and transporting the old PCs. The company will take any computer brand. Workers will first turn on the old PCs to see if they can be used, then send junked desktops in for recycling.

Any PC that can be refurbished will be donated to charity in Taiwan, the companies said in a news release.

Tsann Kuen operates the popular 3C electronics store in Taiwan.

"What's more important is that it streamlines the payment procedure and saves up to 40 percent of the time involved," Hsu stressed.

"It not only creates a win-win situation for the bank and Tsann Kuen, but also the consumers," stressed Eric Chen of the Chinatrust.

As one of the Taiwanese pioneers to explore the market on the Chinese mainland, Tsann Kuen was active in expanding its business network in Taiwan over the past few years. It currently runs 152 chain stores in Taiwan, with a membership of over two million people. It has started its electronic supply chain in 1999, and applied a modern ERP (enterprise resource plan) online management system three years ago. Dell, world`s second-largest NB brand, is said to see a tight supply, so is expected to push for increased shipments from contract manufacturers. As such, an institutional investor predicted Quanta will be able to see monthly shipments exceed three million units of NBs in August and help it create a historic high.

A domestic distributor of 3C (consumer electronics, communications, computers) products noted that supply of consumer-type NBs, including those supplied by Dell, Hewlett Packard and Acer, has been very tight since the beginning of the third quarter of this year, with Dell encountering the most strained supply of such products.

In addition to booming sales, according to an industry analyst, the tight supply plaguing Dell can be also attributed to the short supply of such key components and accessories as flat panels and batteries.

Over the past few months Dell has altered sales strategy to focus on the distributor channels, rather than through direct marketing. At present, Dell NBs are sold through some 3,500 outlets of the world`s largest retailer Wal-Mart and the outlets of Japan`s discount home-appliance retailer BicCamera. Taiwan`s Tsann Kuen Enterprise Co. has also expressed its willingness to add Dell`s consumer-type NBs, dubbed Inspiron, into its product portfolio.

Quanta shipped 2.8 million units of NBs in July, less than the market expected three million units. Thanks to the booming demand for Dell`s consumer-type NBs, Quanta is expected to see shipments hit a historic high record in August.

An institutional investor noted Wistron would begin shipping a brand-new consumer-type NBs for Dell sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. It is expected Quanta and Wistron will become Dell`s major contract manufacturers for consumer-type NBs next year. But contract manufacture of Dell`s business-type NBs will be dominated by Compal Electronics Inc. and Wistron, with the former to become Dell`s largest contract manufacturer worldwide.

The collaboration will have Chief Telecom offer VoIP service on Microsoft`s MSN instant-messaging program. Consumers click on a telephone logo on MSN instant messaging option list on PCs to sign up as members and buy credit points for the service offered by Chief.

The rate of the service is around 50% below the average charge on traditional telephone service. For instance, making local calls on the service`s network costs only NT$0.66 per minute and making mobile calls on the network costs around NT$3.2 per minute.

The partnership is expected to threaten PChome Online of Taiwan, which is contracted to offer Skype-based VoIP service, in consideration of eight million MSN users in Taiwan. Worldwide, Skype has signed up 390 million users including seven million Taiwanese users.

PChome Online`s executives pointed out that on top of the less expensive telephone service Skype had developed value-added services like voice mail messaging and call transit services, which they stressed are not offered elsewhere.

VoIP phone maker IPEVO, 30% owned by PChome Online, will offer phones dedicated to MSN format. IPEVO was formally a hardware business unit under PChome Online, but was spun off into an independent company last year and now can freely supply its products to service providers besides PChome Online.
